Educational Benefits of Flight
A normal first-time flight at iFLY simulates a portion of a skydive called terminal velocity. This is when the force of weight (our mass times gravity) is equal to the force of drag (also known as air resistance). Since the forces are balanced, there is no acceleration and not much sensation
of motion in the wind tunnel. Students hover approximately 3-4 feet above the safety net.
Students will see and feel how small changes in their body position affect how they fly.
When a high flight is performed, you are literally taking the students’ learning and flight
experience to new heights. Our trained flight instructors will safely guide each participant to a
higher level inside the wind tunnel. To make this happen, the wind speed is increased, and the
force of drag is now greater than the force of weight, causing an upward acceleration. Once
they’ve ascended, the instructor moves into a smaller body position which decreases the force
of drag (less air resistance), causing a downward acceleration. The high flight allows students to feel the effects of unbalanced forces such as motion, speed and acceleration.
In addition to the educational benefits, the high flight is the most popular part of the flight
experience; everyone can't stop raving about it!

• How long are field trips? Field Trips are typically about 4 hours.
• What grade levels can we bring? We have curriculum for kindergarten to college.
• Can teachers & chaperones fly? Yes! We honor the student rate for teachers, parents and chaperones if they would like to fly.

• Will flyers get motion sick? No, unlike a roller coaster, flying is a very smooth experience, like floating on a soft column of wind.
• What is the weight range? The max weight is 300 pounds, just let us know if any flyers are between 260 and 300 prior to arrival. There is no weight minimum.
